About Trevor
Trevor Watson, a British-born creative originally from Derby, England, played a key role in shaping San Diego's alternative and underground culture during the 1980s and beyond.
After relocating to San Diego, he launched Revolt In Style magazine in 1980, serving as its founder, publisher, and editor. Inspired by Andy Warhol's Interview magazine, it quickly became a defining voice for the region's underground music, fashion, art, and nightlife scenes. The publication blended bold, gritty photography with edgy, fringe content that appealed to hipsters, creatives, and fashion enthusiasts across Southern California, often acting as a "manual of hip" for the era.
Trevor was deeply involved in the local scene beyond publishing. He founded Club I.D., an influential nightclub which emerged as a hub for alternative music, DJ performances, and vibrant nightlife—drawing crowds who embodied the magazine's rebellious spirit.
He also organized memorable midnight screenings of cult films like Pink Flamingos and Blue Velvet, helping foster San Diego's countercultural vibe.
In more recent years, Trevor has shifted focus to visual arts, particularly painting and videography. His expressive, therapeutic acrylic paintings—often born from personal reflection and a prolific creative drive—have been exhibited at venues such as the Point Loma/Hervey Library (including a notable display from July to October 2023, with an opening reception featuring music, refreshments, and his signature British banter). He continues to create daily, explore new themes, and share his work through social media and community events, while also working in videography and social media management.
Through his pioneering work in publishing, nightlife, and now fine arts, Trevor Watson has left a lasting legacy on San Diego's cultural landscape, inspiring generations of artists, musicians, and creatives in the region.
